Mould Removal

If the mould in your home covers an area of one square meter or more, it is recommended that a qualified mould professional is consulted. Roy Piper is one of the few who maintains certificates in microbial remediation, recognition, and control. He will find the mould, advise you on the cause, and remove it quickly and safely.

There are many companies offering mould remediation services. It can be quite like comparing apples to oranges. We recommend that you inquire about the qualifications, certifications, and training that the inspectors and remediation workers possess. You will also want to be sure the company you choose holds the industry-required liability & pollution insurance, and that they are in good standing with WorkSafe BC.

Home SOULutions does not encapsulate (cover) mould. Both the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corp. (CMHC) and the Canadian Construction Association discourage encapsulation methods. We do not blast or scrape the mould. Instead we use a biodegradable product to remove the mould. In most cases the mould as well as any staining will be gone. In situations where the mould is heavy and there has been water intrusion for some time, there may be minimal staining left behind.

Home SOULutions Remediation Ltd. will also provide you with advice regarding the source and cause of the mould in your home. We can help you to make the necessary upgrades and repairs which will improve the ventilation in your home. Improved ventilation means a decrease in humidity. A decrease in humidity helps to prevent future mould occurrences. Roy Piper has 20+ years of renovation and restoration experience on top of his mould training and prides himself on going above and beyond industry standards. Home SOULutions is certified by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning & Restoration (IICRC).

If you cannot see your mould but you have a musty or earthy smell or family members have been suffering from respiratory issues - we suggest starting with a home humidity & mould inspection and possibly air quality testing to test for allergens. Health Canada advises that high concentrations of airborne mould spores may have a number of adverse health effects. These include eye, nose, and throat irritation; coughing and phlegm build-up; wheezing and shortness of breath; and allergic reactions. Some studies show that mould may also affect your immune system.

Mould is often discovered by a building inspector during the sale process. Buyers, insurance companies, and finance companies will often require that the mould professionally remediated. So if you want that quick sale - let us turn your mould into Sold!

Once mould has been identified in your home, isolating the type or measuring the spore count does not change the procedures for mould removal. Mould will actually ‘eat’ the structure of your home. It will reduce the value of your property. We can remove the mould in your home often in less than a day.

This photo shows the mould growing through the paint in an attic. The goal of the paint was to encapsulate the mould, but as you can see this is not the best process.

This mould was sprayed with a product with the goal of rendering it non-viable (killing it). Other than watching to see if it grows again, there is no way to determine if this mould is still viable (live). The best way to deal with mould is to remove it!

This is a good example of how your attic should look. There is no grey, black or white - it is a clean caramel wood colour. The baffles have been installed correctly at the soffit vents to allow the attic to breathe.

I just wanted to personally thank you all for the great job that you did in putting my house back in good shape. You showed us that there are still people out there that will do what is right and not try to overcharge you. You and your staff are to be commended. By looking at the photos I can see it all looks great and that you take pride in what you do. I will ensure I check the attics every year from now on and I definitely know who to call (or recommend to others) if I see anything suspicious.
